Mornings on the water
Flat water until about ten. Paddleboards, kayaks and a ski boat all launch from the marina at the Pines, five minutes from most of our homes. Bring a sweatshirt for the first hour.

Lake life
Bass Lake is a reservoir in the Sierra National Forest with a village on its north shore. Five hundred people live here year round. In July, a great many more arrive with boats.

One small village does the work of a town: a market, a bakery, a couple of restaurants, boat rentals and the kind of porch you end up sitting on longer than planned.

The south gate is about 25 minutes from the office. Go early, take the valley floor in the morning, and be back on the deck for dinner. Tioga Road opens later in the season.

We would rather tell you the honest version than let you find out at the dock.
Getting around
The Bass Lake area has no public transit. You will want a car for Yosemite, and you will not need one for dinner if you stay in Willow Cove.
